Ordinary heroes

Is it possible to have the ordinary person to be seen as a hero in today's view.
Or dose a hero have to be defined as a class of social cast, like fire fighters, police, army or a comic super Hero with special powers.

Can it be possible to have our great great granddaddy from the old world, who fought off a bear with a stick from the home stead. And the story told over and over till he became a hero to the hole hill side. Or the sister who some how could grow anything in any wether or ground like it was mAgic and so kept the family and some neighbors fed through many times when peeps where starving. Having many men and women looked up to her and idealized her for it. Or the settler who with only one cow and a axe made a home for his family where others failed.
Do the heroes today have to fly in and stop the speeding train, Swing in on a web to catch the falling girl, dodge bullets or on a everyday level run into a burning building to help those trapped out, Take gun fire from some one holding hostages or save someone that has gone into cardiac arrest from dying. Not that Fire Fighters, Cops and Doctor ect... don't have a right to be Heroes, they defiantly do and way more than what they get, they deserve to be call so.
But! The every day working class person that dose the best and beyond what they can, can there be ordinary hero's.
Is it possible in today's view?
